ArcInfo is the most popular GIS package and it defines
the standards for GIS. ArcInfo derives its name from
its ability to display the data in the VECTOR form (ARC)
and the DATABASE form (INFO) or combination of both.
There are different modules in ArcInfo. The basic module
covers the functions of data capture, data manipulation,
data organization, and data display. The other modules
include TIN for digital terrain model development, COGO
for coordinate geometric and uses in the survey data
manipulation etc.
ArcInfo has the RASTER IMAGE handling capabilities
for the raster to vector conversion process. Geo-positioning
of the raster images is possible in ArcInfo using a
GUI guided program.
